What is Kanji?
Kanji means Chinese letter. The script was invented by the Chinese and adopted by the Japanese around the middle of the 6th century AD. Most Japanese people are given Kanji Character to go with their names.
Unlike hiragana and katakana, Each Kanji character has its own meaning. This is where the meaning of your Japanese name is taken from.
What is Hiragana?
Hiragana is the basic Japanese phonetic alphabet. It represents every sound in the Japanese language. It does not represent any meanings on its own. Hiragana has a round appearance, which gives a warm, friendly impression.
What is Katakana?
Unlike Hiragana, Katakana is often used for foreign words and names. For this reason your Japanese friend can most easily recognize your name when it is written in the Katakana format.
